Almost everyone had slept with their parents at one time or an additional one when they were a kid. Either it was because the kids were feeling unwell or had a bad dream, the relieve of having parents near them would most of the time put kids at ease and back to sleep.
Even though you give up some of your alone time with your spouse when you co-sleep with your baby, no one can deny the joy of waking up to the baby's cheerful face every morning.
However, when it comes to co-sleeping with your baby, there are some decisions that need to be made which is the position of the sleeping baby - in the middle of you and your spouse or beside you or your spouse at the side of the bed.
Sleeping in the middle of the baby's parents might be the most rational selection as the baby is not at risk of falling off the edge of the bed. Nevertheless, the baby is also more at a risk of having Either the mum or father rolling over the baby in the middle of the night.
On the contrary, if the baby slept at the side of the bed, the baby has only the risk of having one parent rolling over the baby but it also means the baby can fall off the bed if the baby rolls over.
Despite of all the cons, co-sleeping verily has its pros. Sleeping so close to the baby's parents gives the baby a sense of relieve and security even though the baby wakes up in the middle of the night because the baby is not feeling well or is hungry. At least the parents are right beside the baby to give the baby the concentration needed.
With the pros and cons of co-sleeping, ensure that you and your spouse have enough rest every night while sleeping with your high-priced baby. Adopting a habit of relaxing favourites before it's time for your baby to doze off will help your baby to sleep much easier. Singing, cuddling or reading a book just before bedtime helps the baby to join together with sleep.
Eventually, the familiarity of the habit tells your baby it's time for bed. Ensure that you think about what exactly you are going to do because it will be part of your habit which your baby may come to expect it every night. Keep it simple and ensure that it is something that stand the test of the time as your baby grows.
